SURVEY CONDUCTED AT SAWC 2008 REVEALS IMPORTANCE OF IMPENDING CHANGE IN CMS GUIDELINES

Evanston, Illinois...DM Systems makes available the results of a survey conducted at the Symposium on Advances in Wound Care in April of 2008. The survey, which was completed by 153 visitors to the DM Systems booth, reveals, among other facts, how much the new CMS guidelines will change the way healthcare professionals think about heel pressure ulcers.

Of the 153 respondents, 137 people or 89% responded to the question: "Do you perceive the new CMS guidelines will have a significant impact on the pressure ulcer prevention protocol at your facility?" Of those, 87% confirmed that the new CMS guidelines, effective in October 2008, will have a significant impact on their facility's pressure ulcer protocol.

Other results from the survey include:

· 36% of the respondents indicated that they do NOT have an official heel pressure ulcer protocol

· 107 respondents stated that the most influential factor in their recommendation of a pressure relief device is that it works the best for their patients. Cost and availability were the least important factors, respectively

· The overwhelming majority of those who participated in the survey work in hospitals (85 people)
